The Hague Art Circle: The meeting place for art, culture and inspiration.
The Hague Art Circle (HKK) was founded in 1891 by artist Théophile de Bock and has been a vibrant meeting place for art and creativity ever since. Various art forms come together here, including visual art, design, architecture, literature, theater and music.
We strive to provide an inspiring environment where creativity and collaboration are central. At the HKK, we believe that art is about innovation and discovery. Therefore, we offer both established and emerging artists a stage and organize various exhibitions and events.
Over the years we have had many well-known members, such as the visual artists Jozef Israëls and Jan Schoonhoven, as well as architects like Berlage, writers like Louis Couperus, and theater personalities like Paul van Vliet. This rich history forms the foundation of our association and inspires us to explore new paths and continue to innovate.
At the HKK, everyone is welcome, whether you are an artist, love art, or are just interested in culture. Together we celebrate art and create a place where creativity can flourish. Join The Hague Art Circle and discover what we have to offer!

The board
Meet the board of The Hague Art Circle,
Theo Cordesius
Vice President
An art-loving member, Theo brings more than forty-five years of international experience from business in the Netherlands, the EMEA region and the United States. He was active in a variety of sectors, including insurance, ICT, electronics and digital marketing. In that context, he held management and board positions within both national and internationally listed companies. He also served on boards of directors and chief executives. In addition, he served on the supervisory boards of seven companies in the Netherlands and Germany.
This broad managerial background, in which strategy, governance and organizational development were central, provides a valuable basis for his efforts within HKK. Theo is used to guiding complex organizations through change and growth, with an eye for continuity and social responsibility.
He currently performs part-time audit work. He is also the chairman of the Association Villa Voorschot. Through the associated foundation, a residential facility and living and working environment is provided there for people with intellectual disabilities and autism.
Réka Deuten-Makkai
Secretary
Réka, arts enthusiast, is a cultural manager and programmer with a focus on policy development, networking and connecting diverse partners.
Bart du Chatenier
Treasurer
Treasurer and art loving member.
Bart has done various financial training and has been employed at Dalton College in The Hague for over 30 years where he was responsible for finance and management. Art lover especially of sculpture and architecture.
Alexandra van Dedem-Tielkemeijer
Member of daily management
Art enthusiast, art historian and art lover with a broad career in the art world. She started at Phillips Fine Art Auctioneers in The Hague and Düsseldorf, where she set up the Contemporary Art department and was responsible for PR & Communication. From 1999 to 2007 she ran her own gallery in Olst and Wuppertal and participated in international art fairs. She organized open-air concerts and the Young Talent Series for classical musicians. From 2009 to 2022 she managed Ophemert Castle, where she organized art and cultural events. Nowadays, Alexandra combines art advice with board positions and at the HKK is involved in grant applications, preservation of the building and PR.

Thus the Art Circle has traditionally been an incubator and stage for innovation and experimentation, a production house that stimulates, organizes and provides space.
