Be sure to mark Friday, November 27, on your calendar. That evening, there will be a special edition of Sociëteit De Bock, dedicated entirely to the Bronzen Bockje. Visual artist Peter van Loon will present the award to a new recipient. Who that will be remains a surprise for now. The name will be announced at a later date.

The Bronzen Bockje is a traveling award presented by the Haagse Kunstkring. The small sculpture was created by visual artist Hans la Hey and pays homage to Théophile de Bock (1851–1904), the association’s first president. Whoever receives the award passes it on to another artist who is a member of the Haagse Kunstkring and decides when that will happen.

The award was established to mark the 90th birthday of author Yvonne Keuls, who received the Bockje on February 25, 2022, in recognition of her extensive body of work, which includes books, short stories, columns, and plays.

On June 12, 2023, she presented the award to the artist couple Tatiana Radier (actress) and Rob Scholten (dramaturg, translator, and musician), in recognition of their many years of significant contributions to the Haagse Kunstkring and the Hague art scene.

On August 23, 2024, the couple chose Peter van Loon, known for, among other things, his art installations and his ingenious, playful musical machines. He has been deeply committed to the association for decades. Now it’s up to him to find a new purpose for the Bockje.
