We invite you to ON YOUR OWN – 5 / A multi-disciplinary exhibition; organized by graduated students of the KABK

After graduating we embrace a new era of creating, designing and formulating our artistic practices. It is now time for us to set free, and be on our own. This year, the nine of us have been invited by De Haagse Kunstkring to create a show for the 5th edition of the annual project: ON YOUR OWN. Therefore, in the first week of November 2021, we will give a different context to our graduation work and experience its development in a new light.

Who are we? We are a group of nine KABK graduates. All of us are specialized in different artistic disciplines; now coming together to organize this multi-disciplinary show. This edition of OYO will share a diverse selection of works, where expressions and functions are materialized through several mediums and materials.

ARTIST-STATEMENTS

Catelijne Boele – Fine Arts
Driven by endless movements and whispers

Luka Dortmans – Textile and Fashion
I transform OLD garments into something new and contemporary. By painting right on the garments, adding unusual materials , collaborating with different artists and using bold bright colors it gives the raw look that I’m looking for. My ideas are built around my illustrations and can manifest in various shapes, ranging from tapestry and installations to garments.

Wumen Ghua - Fine Arts
Painting is my portal to other worlds where freedom and love can be found everywhere.

Jesse Greulich – Interior Architecture and Furniture Design
By means of exploration through play, children are capable to come to their own decisions and conclusions ultimately, gaining independence and empowerment through this act. ‘BIKA' is a set of connection pieces for play with no intention of an end result in mind, other than moments of discovery, experimentation and expression.

Petra Huisman – Research based Fashion Design
With this project I want to physically show the importance of transparency in the relations between yourself and the people you interact with. Because, for me fashion already begins through how people interact with one another. It is not just the way we dress, or how we present ourselves, it can be so many elements that create someone's identity.

Cemre Deniz Kara – Artscience
Over time, etiquettes were built to reduce violent social interactions, as well as a craving for stronger bonds urging people to find spaces where they can be peaceful; a dinner table. Elbows on the Table contains a series of performative dinner scenarios that question accepted etiquettes around our western dinner table.

Chiel Lubbers - Interior Architecture and Furniture Design
An inner-act attempts to reveal our intimate lifeforms, it brings the inner to the outer, to tap into resonance. It seeks to find an essence of culture within nature by bringing equal position to non-human lifeforms that together make up an ecosystem in which we inner-act.

Fabiola van den Berg - Graphic Design
Digging for iPhones explores the material and social impact of the iPhone. The project consists of handmade iPhones used as a medium for cumulative storytelling.

Lili Weinstein - Photography
Perhaps, shyness can mean to be brave. I want to use it as a tool to make myself vulnerable and invite strangers to take part in it.

We invite you to share this special moment with us.
