Arabic Calligraphy Workshop by Wajeeh Qadamani

In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to the Kairouan Kufic script, a type of Arabic script named after the city of Kairouan in Tunisia.

Wajeeh Qadamani will discuss various works of art he has created that are on display at the exhibition. The Kairouan Kufic script is an essential element of these works.

You’ll practice writing with this special script yourself, and you’ll learn to write words with it, including your own name.

The course covers the aesthetics of the Kayrawani Kufic script, focusing on the proportions between letter width and height, the balance between black and white in the text, and the distinguishing features that set it apart from other scripts. You’ll learn about letter dimensions and their practical application.

You will compare Kayrawani and Latin scripts and examine the similarities between them.
